Bestival Style

This weekend it was off to the fancy-dressed Bestival on the
Isle of Wight to catch the last stylish festival-goers
of the summer. Armed with enough outfit changes to put Eva Longoria to shame
and a keen eye for rock chick fashionistas, my friends and I set off for what
promised to be a fun-filled camp fest. However, (yes, why is there always a 'but'
with me and these things?), after checking the weather forecast, it seemed my
fate was doomed. We've all seen the horrific images of festival-goers covered
head to toe in mud, still smiling despite the adverse weather conditions as
their tents sail off in to the distance. I, for one, never imagined I would be
one of these insane swamp-like creatures, but alas I thought too soon.

It turns out I needn't have bothered packing a costume for
the 'Freaks Under Sea'-themed party as after 24 hours of rain, pools of mud and
a classic fall flat on my face, I was the epitome of the look without even
trying. Thankfully, my fall from grace came after I had hunted out the die-hard
trendsetters. Bestival was full of fabulous fashion. Festival devotees worked
all the top looks, from denim hotpants teamed with wellies to floral sundresses
under chunky cardigans.

Once my reporting was done for the day, it was time to ditch
my fussy DON'T-GET-MUD-ON-ME
approach and get down and dirty singing along to the likes of Miss Winehose
(yes, she arrived and yes, she could sing!), Hot Chip, CSS
and my secret favourite act, Human League. It's surprising what a bit of music
and a lot of vodka can do... Mud, what mud? Let's just hope I can get it out of
my hair in time for fashion week!
