The return of the pointy shoe

Instyle - The return of the pointy shoe

Despite Alexander McQueen's best efforts to introduce a new shoe shape this summer (his square-toe heels were to die for), most of us spent the summer in ballet flats and flip-flips (weather permitting). This is all set to change this autumn as the elegant pointy court is making a comeback. And it's about time!

The return coincides with autumn's power dressing, featuring chic skirt suits, pencil thin trousers and column dresses. All those ensembles need a dramatic shoe to complete the look, and the pointy shoe does just that. Balenciaga, Lanvin, Michael Kors and Chloe all used super pointy heels to complete the stunning catwalk creations.

Stars like Kate Beckinsale, Selma Blair and Demi Moore have already embraced the classic pointy pump as it lends itself well to an array of looks. Invest now and reap the benefits later - these babies will be a great addition to the LBD come Christmas party season.

Tips:
- This look does not have to be boring. Texture is HOT this season, so try adopting this trend in suede, patent leather, and mock croc.
- Wear the heels with form fitting pencil skirts or tailored dresses.

Pros:
- Pointy toes elongate the leg, which can make you look taller and slimmer
- They Look chic with trousers, over-the-knee skirts and dresses.

Cons:
- They can pinch your feet after a while, so make sure you buy the right size
