SATC rakes it in

Instyle - SATC rakes it in

Something dawned on me this weekend as I settled down to
watch Sex and the City for the second time in less than a
week: this movie is going to make a
lot of money. And not just a lot of money for SJP, the gals and
New Line Cinema (I can't imagine I'm the only one who will see this film
twice, plus probably buy the DVD – you do
the maths), but for anyone and everyone involved in the fashion, gadget and
entertaining industries.

For the last several months my inbox has been bulging with
companies trying to capitalise on the film, even if they were not related to it
in any way. From vibrators to vodkas to fashion houses, everybody wanted a
piece of the SATC pie. And it looks like
everybody did.

Case in point, last Thursday night. I was lucky enough to be
treated to a girly evening of cocktails, canapés and the screening by the
lovely folks at Olympus. We kicked off at the swanky bar and restaurant Taman
Gang on Park Lane, where we
were greeted by Butlers in the
Buff, a team of waiters who on normal occasion serve you naked, but
thankfully were wearing trousers this time (I'm such a Charlotte).
The bar was absolutely packed, the cosmos were flowing, and every single woman
in the house was decked out in a pair of high heels, some of which had been
bought especially for the occasion, they secretly revealed to me in my Carrie Bradshaw-style snoop sessions. So clearly the events
company did well out of the evening, as did Taman Gang, as did the Selfridges
shoe hall. I did too, scoring a tummyful of delicious dim sum, a fabulous pink Olympus digi camera and more giggles
than I could count. What economic depression?
