Sex and the City: The Movie

Instyle - Sex and the City: The Movie

I felt a little bit emotional as I settled into my seat in the cinema and the opening credits of SATC the Movie rolled… and the atmosphere around me said that I wasn't alone in feeling that way. Since Big told Carrie she was The One in the final episode in 2004 I've been longing to find out what happened next. I've also missed getting my weekly dose of Patricia Field's inspired styling and was dying to check out every last outfit the film would produce. But the zillion dollar question loomed… Would it be any good?

Well, I needn't have worried. There were steamy sex scenes, witty one-liners and enough shoes to put Selfridges out of business… Sex and the City the Movie is just the girly fest we've all been hoping for.

The film picks up three years after we left Carrie with her Big beau and delves straight back into the lives and loves of the fabulous four. Carrie and Big (whose name is finally revealed as John Preston) are on the hunt for an apartment while Miranda's suburban life with Steve takes a turn for the worse and Charlotte's Upper East side existence is as peachy as she ever dreamed it could be. Over on the West Coast, Samantha's shacked up with toy boy Smith Jared though monogamy is driving her slowly nuts.

The fairytale gets into full swing as Carrie and Big find the perfect apartment (in Carrie's words; "I've gone to real estate heaven") and decide to get married. Our heroine stars in a glossy magazine shoot, Vivienne Westwood gives her a one-of-a-kind wedding dress and all is shaping to be pretty much perfect for our princess - until a Big-sized blip gets in the way.

Nuff said I feel. What I will say is that you will laugh, you'll definitely cry and this really is the ultimate chick flick… so gather your girlfriends, watch the film and dissect over multiple cocktails afterwards. And prepare to do some serious shopping… if there's one thing that might solve the retail crisis it's this film… one glimpse of Carrie's walk-in wardrobe was enough to send me hot footing it to Bond Street for a fashion fix. And lastly, a word of advice: Don't wear flat shoes to see this film – after all those sky high beauties the sight of a pair of flatties on your feet will bring you all too swiftly back down to earth.
