Rolling with the Stones on the Isle of Wight

Instyle - Rolling with the Stones on the Isle of Wight

Sunday was always going to be the best day of the festival with the Rolling Stones headlining, but it was also the best day for getting up close with lots of A Listers. At about 4pm, when the adorably cute Paolo Nutini
was playing on stage and I was strolling up to the NME when I encountered the most glamorous troop. Jade, Elizabeth and James Jagger were walking towards me with Lily Cole and Dan Williams (Jade's dishy boyfriend). The Jaggers and friends were there to watch their dad headline the festival that night. These girls know how to rock the festival look so well - it's in their blood, after all. Jade was wearing two festival essentials: an army jacket and tanned legs!

Later that night, almost bursting with excitement, I took my place at the side of the stage to watch the Stones and I was joined by the Jagger girls again, and the Wood children, plus the duo that have now become rock and roll icons forever, Kate Moss and Pete Doherty. Kate was with her daughter Lila Grace, who looked so cute carrying around a massive cuddly stuffed tiger that was about twice her size. Despite being 'en famille' Kate still looked utterly gorgeous, wearing very high heels, pale denim flares, a chiffon top, no bra and a corset. Pete was much taller than I imagined (about 6ft 4) and rocking his black Dior Homme suit. He's much better looking than in photos and was very attentive to little Lila.

And the Stones? Well, they were legendary, and they put all the young pretenders who'd preceeded their performance to shame. And having seen the Stones 11 times previously, I think I can safely make the claim I've never seen them fall in love with a crowd so much.

After the gig I partied with my friend Cher (the brunette in the picture with me) and a gang of friends until 3.30am and had a total ball. I wasn't having such a ball boarding the ferry at 6.15am with a hangover, though. Especially as I was sharing it with a bunch of people who I could tell had been camping the whole weekend because of their pungent smell.

Even though I'm still on a high from the weekend, and thanking my lucky stars for such glorious weather, Isle of Wight 2007 has been in no way been the festival dummy run for Glasto, as I'd anticipated it would be. With endless free food and drink, well-lit backstage mirrors, proper loos and accommodation in a castle with a four poster bed, those stinky campers served as a fearful reminder of what could happen if things at Glasto go horribly wrong!
