Maddox Club Opening

So, another night, another next-big-thing members' bar opens. Doesn't this seem to happen every week? And still everyone from Madonna to Prince Harry goes to a themed bar that has a bloke dressed in tiki-style garb on the door.

Anyway, we almost didn't make it after getting lost in the side streets of Mayfair. It took a good wander and some sat-nav directions from Coronation Street's Dev (who just happened to be passing in his car) before we finally found it.

With one celebrity sighting under our belts (a sterling start), the club's PR girls kindly let us skip the queue and whispered that Sean 'Diddy' Combs would be appearing before the evening's end. Excellent. Then they proceeded to ply us with champagne ? definitely our kind of launch party.

Jade Jagger put in an appearance to support boyfriend Dan Williams, who was on the decks ? though the much-hyped suspended Perspex DJ booth looked like any other DJ booth to me. But all in all, Maddox Club is a pretty glam joint, with cute little tables and a dancefloor downstairs. It was also absolutely heaving.

With still no sign of Diddy (he had apparently requested 10 bottles of vodka and platters of exotic fruit to be ready for him), we decided to leave at about midnight. And as we left, flashbulbs started popping. Cue much excitement ? until we realised that it was my boyfriend's mate, Chris Parker, taking the pics. The former EastEnder is filming ITV show Deadline, where celebrities are working for a gossip mag, and his job is to snap stars at parties. Once the other photographers realised it was only us, the cameras were instantly dropped. I guess that's how quickly you're in or out in show biz.

And Diddy? He made a blink-and-you'll-miss-him appearance at 1am for 10 minutes, before swanking off to another club.
